Storage & Care Tips for your Slipmats
Share
OK, so youve bought one now, how do i look after this thing.. tell me oh wise one, what do i need to know?
Storage:
As long as you keep the lid on your record player and the room isn't overly damp or dusty, which are both killers for vinyl anyway, then your slipmat should last indefinitely, longer than you for sure. But, should you swap out your mat with different themes or you get a new design that you like just to freshen up your set up then being gentle with your slipmat and storing it like you would your vinyl, is all you need to do. The primary advice is to keep the slipmat flat either horizontally or vertically, being sure not to kink or bend the mat for a long periods as the felt is pretty unforgiving for harsh creases. It can be flattened again relatively easily by pressing the mat under a low temperature ( under 160 C ) so as not to reactivate the dyes in the felt surface that make up the design. which would weaken or fade the strength of the original design.
All modmats mats are sold with their storage included for free!. They come with a hard card sleeve and a protective plastic sleeve, meaning that they can be slipped insdide any record box or shelving alongside your vinyl collection. As long as those are well cared for then your slipmat will be perfectly fine too.
Cleaning: Felt:
If the mats got a little dusty then the best thing you can do is give it a gentle vacuum not to much pressure as to distort, crinkle or crease the felt.. or my personal favourite is us to use a lint roller, the sort of thing you use on clothing to obtain loose fibres from clothing.
Cork:
Caring for the cork mats is just as easy, the same lint roller will pick up dirt and dust, but you also have the option to wipe it down with a clean damp cloth., just make sure its completely dry before you lay any precious vinyl on top of it. We dont want to damage those labels on the vinyl.
Replacement:
In the madly unlikely event that things just go crazy and they start to fray or unravel.. (they wont ) then just swap out mats that are fraying, thinning, or losing grip.
